Description

On arriving at Woodside you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in Nantucket on the East Coast of the US. Surrounded by a picket fence, a stepping stone path winds its way to a pretty wooden chalet with delicate wood carvings on the front gable, the sunny front veranda adds to the look and feel of this heavenly hideaway.

Woodside offers delightful holiday accommodation for 4/6 people in 2 bedrooms and a mezzanine floor with a double sofa bed. Set on the fringes of the quirky and quiet residential area of Sandy Lane, it boasts incredible views across Pennard Golf Course and towards Three Cliffs Bay from both a balcony and garden.

There's plenty of parking plus WiFi.

Sandy Lane was originally built as an area of holiday cottages for residents of Swansea at the start of the 20th Century. Many of the properties were made more robust during the Second World War to provide permanent homes for people who needed a safe retreat. Now the area has an eclectic mix of timber frame chalets many with an eco-friendly theme.

There's plenty to do in the immediate area. There's the Gower Inn, a friendly local pub with a good menu plus the Gower Heritage Centre with its restored watermill and kids' activity centre. Two small general stores are within walking distance in the adjacent Pennard estate and down the hill in Parkmill valley and there are some fabulous beaches within walking distance.

Note: Access to the property is via an unmade road and although there are pot holes, it is suitable for most vehicles.

Reviews

Clean, warm and very well situated.

Mr D,

What a lovely property. Although open plan it was very cosy and comfortable. We had a wonderful weekend and so did our 2 spaniels. The cottage and enclosed garden was ideal for our dogs. Being able to take them for a walk straight from the cottage was amazing. Three cliffs Bay just on the doorstep. We would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

Miss B,

This cottage is perfect. It is situated in an amazing position behind a golf course with views over Three Cliffs Bay.

Mrs M,

Amazing house. Spacious and clean. The road to the house is dreadful and put me off driving anywhere. Bushes that lead to golf course and beach need cutting back to avoid regular stings. Loved the visit from the cows, front and back!

Mrs B,

A lovely clean house.Spacious for 6 people and 2 dogs.Nicely furnished and cosy on those rainy days.Great views from the balcony.Only down side is the awful unmade track, full of potholes, which leads to the house. Great position for those who like walking. The local supermarkets will do online deliveries which saves time.

Mrs H,

Really enjoyed our stay at Woodside on the Gower and we’re lucky with the weather. The views over the golf course towards the sea are memorable with the walks from the door taking you either on the cliff tops or onto the glorious Three cliffs bay or into woodlands inland. The cottage was quiet and peaceful and really safe for our dog Chester. The only downside is the unmade road leading to Sandy lane and makes you not want to keep coming and going, although this wouldn’t put us from returning which we hope to do and discover more of the wonderful Gower

Mr B,

We thought the cottage was very comfortable and enjoyed staying in it. We loved the feel of the Sandy Lane area, but our biggest issue was getting along the very bumpy Sandy Lane to the cottage in my Yaris. We parked on a nearby road all week so that we still had a car to drive home in! We found lots of lovely walks to do throughout the Gower. The path down to Three Cliffs bay was further than we thought and challenging for two, not so fit, 73 yr olds! Recommend visitors try the cliff paths over in the Southgate area.

Ms J,

Cottage is in a wonderful, magical location, unfortunately needs a little love to bring the magic there the cottage

Mrs C,

Lovely cottage. Very clean and tidy. Beautiful views and walk around. Absolutely dire road to and from property that needs to be better advertised as not suitable for any lower vehicle. I drive a Honda civic and after 2 ventures out we chose to stay home . My vehicle couldn’t cope with the craters and stress of the half a mile road that leads to the property- described from locals as a joke! When the weather turned we came home early as it would have been even worse. Needs to be much better advertised as I don’t want anyone else going through the stress we went through.

Mrs M,

The walk down to Three cliffs bay from the back gate is awesome

Mrs B,

What a fantastic property and accommodation to stay at. The accommodation was very spacious. Lots of room upstairs and downstairs. Plenty of seating areas and amenities were spot-on the only thing that I would say is that it does not tell you on the site that they do not supply firewood for the log burner so if you are going in the winter you will need to take your own wood. Luckily we did this. The views were amazing and it’s right on a golf course where you can happily stroll with your dog for a walk.
