Reviews

Oakland House is a home from home. It's in a fabulous location; convenient for local shops, restaurants and the beautiful Gower peninsula with everything it has to offer. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay and we felt relaxed and at home as soon as we walked through the door. The owners are incredibly friendly, and helpful. We're already checking our diaries for a return visit.

Mrs B,

Another fantastic holiday at Oakland House! This is our third time staying there and we have already booked to go back next year. With two young children, we have found Mumbles to be an ideal destination with huge beautiful beaches like Rhosilli and Three Cliffs Bay nearby and the lovely Caswell and Langland Bay just 5 minutes away in the car. We love Rhosilli in particular with the spectacular views over Worms Head and the sunflower fields with activity trails for the kids. This year we also discovered the tennis courts at Langland Bay which were easy to book and newly re-surfaced offering another local activity. > > We all enjoyed the Blackpill lido and playground especially riding there and back on the little train! The Wales national pool and “family splash” was also a hit which we combined with a visit to “Secrets” restaurant right on the beach. Another fabulous meal at the Lighthouse at Bracelet bay - amazing views and great little playground for the kids. > > As usual, Mumbles itself did not disappoint with its great range of shops and cafes - Boo and Microlot cafe being favourites for the delicious coffee, cinnamon buns and blondies. > > After all this, we love returning to Oakland House - spacious, comfortable and very well equipped and with a lovely balcony - perfect for morning coffee and evening drinks overlooking the bay and castle. The owners were, as ever, very responsive and helpful to requests and queries about parking permits and offering discounts for some local businesses. All in all, another fabulous Mumbles holiday!

Mrs B,

A lovely spacious establishment to relax in and also use as a base to explore from. It was a warm and comfortable stay for us

Mr B,

I am disabled and was looking forward to watching television in the bedroom. There was no remote so couldn’t turn tv on. Was very disappointed. The house itself with its many rooms was indeed beautiful and ideal for a large family.

Mrs M,

We have just returned from spending a glorious week in Oakland House. It is ideally situated within minutes from the town, beaches and only a short distance from all that The Gower Peninsula has to offer. The house itself is fully equipped with absolutely everything you'd ever need on a holiday. It is filled with loads of interesting local art and is imaginatively and thoughtfully decorated throughout. Emma is a great host, is full of local information and all her recommendations were excellent. She is extremely approachable and super quick to answer any queries. We cannot recommend Oakland House and The Mumbles highly enough and look forward to returning.

Mrs D,

What can we say Em and Guy ...thank you for such an enjoyable week in your beautiful home by the sea. The house is in a great location to explore the cafes, restaurants, shops and views that Mumbles has to offer but without doubt our favourite has been discovering the stunning Gower peninsula coastline. Heading out from Mumbles on the coastal path the bays, beaches and coves keep coming. If you like walking, beaches and sea views, whilst also spotting the odd seal, this is the spot for you. Our highlights have been walking up from the house and picnicing on Langlands beach, a visit to the impressive Rhossili beach, unfortunately no time for the sunflower fields, lunch at Langlands Brasserie, pizzas from Pappi's eaten on the balcony taking in the view and lunch at Boo's Kitchen, the juices are amazing. Joe's ice cream is also a must. The 12th century castle made for an interesting visit with it's port cullis workings and gap to pour hot water on the invading enemy ! On our one wet day, the young adults headed into Cardiff for shopping and lunch. The house has accommodated our ranging age groups very well offering separate spaces for TV, games and relaxing. Essential with teenagers ! Thank you Oakland House, Mumbles, you definitely delivered.

Mrs S,

During the last week of June we met my daughter and partner for a week’s holiday on the Gower. She had arranged for us all to stay at Oakland House and I was a little worried about what we would find when we arrived. As soon as we opened the door the house welcomed us by its warm decorative style and well equipped rooms. We couldn’t believe how easy it was to manage, the facilities were all top class and we wanted for nothing. We were favoured with good sunny weather and could get out and about easily. I feel a lot fitter after walking to town and back up the hill but it is close to all the town’s superb facilities, shops and restaurants. We felt if we had inclement weather, the house offered us space to do our thing in the three lounge spaces, full catering facility and chance to clean up if we had wet clothes. Would we recommend it to friends and family, maybe not, as if we do it will definitely be fully booked when we want to return. Seriously it is the best holiday accommodation you can find and the owners are very quick to respond to questions or offer great advice about the area. One of the best pieces of advice we appreciated was to try Mumbles Coffee and we ensured we brought some beans back with us to enjoy and remember the great holiday we had enjoyed thanks to Emma & Guy.

Ms W,

Comfortable, warm well equipped cottage with a nice decked area well furnished with lovely views over Mumbles and the bay. Lots of space for children to get away from adults and have their own space. The cottage is a short walk down to the seafront, shops restaurants and bars - even if its slower coming back! We found Mumbles great, friendly and hospitable. Theres easy access to Swansea and lovely coastal walks a beautiful area.

Mrs L,

Great house in an excellent location, really handy for shops, restaurants, beaches, walks. Incredibly well-equipped with lots of gadgets in the kitchen. The terrace is lovely, a great place to sit in the sun with a sea view.

Mrs G,

Beautiful holiday house, everything you could wish for, great location near all beaches, restaurants, shops, just perfect! The house is so comfortable, spacious, and very well equipped with a real quality home from home feel. All the rooms are so nicely and thoughtfully decorated with some great views across the bay and the house is ideally situated with easy access to Mumbles and the shops, galleries, restaurants and bars enabling us to really enjoy the lovely independent vibe that you get in the town. It’s also a great spot for some scenic coastal walks and access to the Gower. Overall, ten out of ten, great house and great location, we certainly didn’t want for anything, and we look forward to booking again

Mrs P,

We has a good holiday at this cottage. The house is lovingly furnished, with everything we needed. The balcony offered a nice view, and the proximity to the coast path and Mumbles is convenient for exploring.

Miss J,

A really fantastic house with so much room and in a perfect location for the town, eateries, beaches etc. We were a party of six adults and the house was plenty big enough for all of us. The kitchen was brilliantly equipped for all manner of cooking and catering; better than home!! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a comfortable and spacious house for a break.

Mrs W,

We stayed at Oakland house to celebrate my 49th Birthday. We had three generations at Oakland and the house and area had so much to offer for everyone. Firstly, the house is a home from home. Lots of lovely touches around the place and gorgeous arts and crafts around. Really comfortable sofas, lots of throws and blankets around if needed. Property was warm and cosy (went in November). You can see the sea from the balcony and from a few of the back rooms. All walking distance to shops, restaurants, cafes and beaches. We didn’t drive at all while there. Best bit was that Em the host was so helpful. Gave me so much advice on where to go, where to eat, what not to miss while there. We wanted to stay for longer which is a good sign and we are all keen to go back as soon as we can. Lovely house in a lovely area with a lovely host! Thanks for a great stay!

Mrs Rachel B,

Oakland House is a perfect home from home, whatever your reason for visiting South Wales. It is beautifully furnished and creatively decorated with loving care – staying here feels like a real treat. We’ve just spent a week in this Mumbles utopia, and we will definitely be back again (for our fourth visit, and many more in the future, hopefully). This gorgeous house is spacious and set out over four levels, so even with six guests, you can enjoy your own space, should you wish to. We have two adult children who join us with their partners, and it works perfectly. We can either socialise together in the gorgeous sitting room and dining room or spread out into the basement chill out area or the loft room – both of which are equally comfortable. There’s even room to socialise in the well-equipped kitchen when cooking for everyone. During our recent stay, my husband and I did long walks with our dog (our favourite child!) most days, either locally or at the beautiful beaches of Oxwich or Rhossili, just a short drive away. This area is perfect for walkers, water sports enthusiasts and explorers, or if you just want to mooch around in a beautiful setting. I love to indulge my passion for the waves when we visit; there’s even a downstairs shower for sandy swimmers, surfers or SUPpers and four-legged friends when they return from their coastal adventures. The independent shops and coffee bars of Mumbles are always a favourite of ours, as are the local independent restaurants (Verdi’s is our favourite, and Joe’s ice-cream is a must too). But if you want more choice and a city experience, Cardiff is only a drive or short train journey away and offers a whole host of activities as well as remarkable retail therapy, food and drink venues and other local attractions like stadium tours, Cardiff Castle, and boat trips around the bay! And of course, Mumbles is the gateway to the stunning Gower Coast, so if beautiful scenery and outdoor adventures are your thing, then you couldn’t be in a better location than Oakland House. And when you return at the end of a busy (or relaxing!) day out, it is like coming home, but better! I’m always sad leaving Oakland House because it is my happy place – but planning my next visit always cheers me up…

Mrs Tessa B,

We had a wonderful week at Oakland House. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming before our arrival. I know Mumbles very well, and I think this is one of the best locations in the area, for easy access to shops, beaches and coastal walks. We did not need to move the car for the whole week. Would recommend to family and friends, and will certainly book the house if we visit Mumbles again.

Past Customer,

We have had another fantastic holiday at Oakland house. This was our fourth trip to Mumbles and we are still discovering more things to do with our two young children (4 and 6). We love the beaches - Langland and Caswell bay are v family friendly, 3 Cliff’s Bay and Rhosilli are both huge and beautiful. Rhosilli also has some incredible sunflowers with a little trail for the children to follow around. The pub at Worm’s head above the beach has amazing views and good pub food. The Black pill lido was great for paddling on sunny days whilst the Wales national pool worked well on less sunny days! We also had a great day out at Margam park in Port Talbot - beautiful walks, a little farm, boating lake and playgrounds. The bracelet bay playground was a lucky find for us this year too with amazing views and The Lighthouse restaurant overlooking the bay. Mumbles itself always works well for us all. Great coffee and cakes at Boo’s, playgrounds in town and in Underhill park and even a special children’s hairdresser (Joshua’s) where they do amazing things with glitter! Nearby Swansea provided good entertainment too with bowling and a massive soft play for rainy days. Oakland house is a very relaxing base for all of this. It’s very spacious and well equipped and has been tastefully decorated with lots of paintings of local beaches and landmarks. Evening drinks on the balcony looking out at the sea and the castle is the perfect way to end the day. We recommend all of it and are already looking forward to going back!

Mrs Chloe B,

This property ticked every box and more . It’s location was perfect and absolutely everything provided for .It certainly was a home from home We shall definitely return .

Mrs W,

Oakland House is a superb house set in a great location with easy walking distance to both the town and local beaches. The house is beautifully furnished throughout and set over four floors so plenty of space for everyone. From the moment we walked in it felt like a real home from home with welcome treats on the side and in the fridge! The owners were great at communicating, checking that we had arrived safely as-well as offering loads of suggestions for beaches, shops and restaurants to visit. The house had everything we needed and a lovely deck with views over the bay to enjoy a drink on in the evening. Even the dog was catered for with blankets, towels and dog treats. We would thoroughly recommend Oakland House and look forward to returning to the property for another holiday!

Mrs Clare B,

You have a truly beautiful home. It's not just a holiday let, it's a home and one that provides everything you could ever need when you are on holiday! We really enjoyed our stay, so much so we really didn’t want to leave.

Past Customer,

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for a really wonderful week at Oakland House, you have made it feel homely and welcoming as well as stylish. There is plenty of space for the children to play along with the outdoor terrace and its stunning views and sunshine! The location has been ideal being able to easily walk into Mumbles which has everything and a very strong community of local shops, or across to Langland Bay from Overland Road, no need to worry about parking at the beach! The children have been able to wheel their bikes down to the promenade having a lovely daily bike ride and a Joes ice cream or stop off at Verdi’s. I have run every morning round the cliffs ending up with a dip in the sea to cool down and my husband has been cycling around the Gower. Oakland House has ticked every box and we all LOVE it here, we will definitely be returning! We didn’t get a parking permit for the week but it has been surprisingly ok, however probably more challenging on a weekend or mid summer and would definitely be useful. Thank you so much for your welcome and accessibility as owners, we didn’t bring our dog this time but will next time, she would love it here!

Mrs Serena G,

We had a wonderful stay at Oakland House, a beautiful bolthole situated perfectly in the middle of the Mumbles with easy access to the lovely independent shops of Newton Road, the sweeping views of Swansea Bay and the must-visits of Joes, Verdi's and the Mumbles Pier, just be prepared for the hills! You can tell from the carefully considered decor and local art that the Owners take immense pride in Oakland House, both for themselves and their guests. There's everything you could want and need for a week's (or longer) stay, every pot, pan and utensil to cook up a storm in the stunning kitchen. The deck was a particularly favourite spot with glorious views of Oystermouth Castle and the Bay. We were a multi-generational group and there was plenty of room for us to enjoy time together and have space to relax and there were dog-friendly touches a-plenty. The bedrooms are well sized, with a lovely family bathroom. We spent most of our time in the living/dining room which is a brilliant social space, with all the streaming options you could need to unwind. Parking can be tricky, there are a mix of permitted and non-permit spaces on the road. We managed to find spaces for our two cars but I would recommend applying for a visitors permit from the council if you are staying for the week. (Make sure you do this well in advance and have it sent to your home address). Em & Guy have got to be up there with the most sincere, generous and welcoming hosts. We had a couple of queries on arrival which were sorted within hours, nothing was too much trouble. Communication wise, I could not fault them and I would not hesitate to recommend them and their beautiful home for anyone looking to enjoy the sights and delights that the Mumbles has to offer. We cannot wait to return soon.

Mrs Kate B,
