Here are just a few reasons to visit Gower:
Breathtaking Beaches
With more award-winning beaches than you can sprinkle a million buckets of sand at, everyone who visits Gower has a favourite.
What will be yours? Cosy Caswell, neat Bracelet or the stunning Three Cliffs. Families often choose Langland, the picturesque bay with its quirky beach huts, adventure-begging rock pools and invigorating cliff-path walks.
The vast and wonderful Oxwich is also a popular choice, where if you shuffle a few extra feet along the beach from the car park, you can still escape to a secluded retreat, even on the busiest summer’s day.
Riding the Ocean
Gower is a magnet for the surfing community, rivalled only by Cornwall in the UK. Langland Bay, Caswell Bay and Llangennith are probably the top three if you want to pull on the wetsuit and get carried along the lapping Welsh waves.
But you don’t have to traverse across the frothy ocean to enjoy the bracing Gower ocean; the area is home to a host of thrilling water sport attractions to suit everyone from the young to the long in the tooth. And for those of you who would prefer to simply take a dip in the open water, there’s no where quite like the endless blue of Gower to do it.
Wonderful Wildlife
Want to come face to face with adorable creatures in their natural habitats? The amazing coastal path surround the Gower Peninsula straddles an impressive range of diverse wildlife. Gower became the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956. From autumn to spring, the Burry Inlet, a protected site for its international importance, teems with wildfowl and waders, from tiny dunlins to large shelducks.
There’s nothing quite like watching your children’s faces light up when they meet nature’s most charming wildlife for the first time. Life’s most simple pleasures make the best memories at Gower.
Unforgettable Walks
The Gower is one of the country’s most popular walking destinations. And once you visit, you’ll instantly see why! Mix an awe-inspiring coastal path with a complex geology influenced by past ice ages and the result is a variety of superb scenery that will pool in your eyes and mind forever. Feast your eyes on the south coast’s superb limestone scenery at Worm’s Head and Oxwich Bay or stroll down to the saltmarshes and dune systems in the north.
But whatever you do, don’t miss the walk out to Worm’s Head at low tide. Once you do it, you’ll know why it’s not to be left on to do list! And for when you’ve worked up a hearty appetite... the whole of Gower is dotted with warm, homely pubs and delightful restaurants, all ready to welcome you with friendly, welsh open arms. While you’re there, be sure to try local tasty treats such as salt marsh lamb, Welsh Black beef, laverbread, fresh fish and shellfish. (The hand-gathered cockles are a must!)
Family Friendly
Want to burn off some steam with some high energy fun? Pop into the LC, Swansea’s most exciting leisure centre and water park. Or get hi-tech and hands on at the National Waterfront Museum.
Or if the heavens open, take the outdoors inside at Plantasia, an exotic indoor tropical haven that hosts a variety of insects, reptiles, fish and monkeys! And of course, you can’t visit Gower without trying your hand at a game of golf or two! From the rugged and traditional links at Pennard to the fantastic views at Langland Bay, you’re guaranteed a game to remember! Choose happiness. Choose Gower.
